About my Topic
My topic is the Emancipation Proclamation, I picked it because it is exciting to me.The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1,1863. In July 1862, President Lincoln read his "preliminary proclamation" to his Cabinet, then decided to wait for a Union military victory to issue it. On September 22, 1862, following the victory of the civil war , he signed the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, formally alerting the Confederacy of his intention to free all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states. One hundred days later, with the Confederacy still in full rebellion, President Abraham Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation took in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. President Lincoln was one of the biggest part of the Emancipation Proclamation because he made it. Before the Proclamation all slaves where know as property, and if they escaped practically the whole town would help catch them. After the Emancipation Proclamation the slaves where free and where equal, the kids got to go to school and get an education, the African Americans got to work with whites and they where no longer know as property.
